That's Where We Came Alive - The Story of Arie Pinsker

Arie Pinsker was born in 1930 in the city of Nagyvárad, Northern Transylvania (today Romania). In September 1940 Northern Transylvania, until then part of Romania, was annexed to Hungary, and the anti-Jewish legislation of that country was strictly enforced in the region. In March 1944 the German army invaded Hungary, and some two months later the city's Jews - Arie's family among them - were concentrated in ghettos. In mid-May 1944, a mass deportation of Hungarian Jews to Auschwitz took place. Arie's family was deported there as well. Arie was later transferred to Kaufering camp, a sub-camp of Dachau, and from there taken on a "death march" towards Austria, during which he was liberated by Allied forces in May 1945. After the war arie reunited with two of his brothers that had survived, Yosef and Yitzhak, and together they immigrated to pre-state Israel. Arie enlisted to fight in Israel's War of Independence, and following his discharge from the army in 1949, was among the found of the HaYegov moshav. Arie married Zahava, and the two have three children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
