In this video we present you the process of relocating a wild elephant. Relocation or the translocation implies that the elephants are being shifted to a reserve forest from the place they usually hung around. Officers have got so many complaints about this elephant as he perceive an aggressive behavior. He has flattered many houses of poor villagers and damaged their crops too. On the other hand he can cause damages for human life as well. As a result, there was a threat to his life. These circumstances occur as a worsening condition of the human elephant conflict. Having considered facts officers decided to relocate him in order conserve the elephant’s life. Otherwise there's a high possibility for him to become a victim of Jaw exploders,trap gun or a gun shooting set by the outraged farmers. Therefore this action is taken for the betterment of elephant. Relocating decisions are hardly taken. Even if the elephants are relocated they are used to resume to their usual place. But in absence of any solution officers have to relocate them for the sake of both parties. However it is not an overnight process. There is a separate team of officers for relocations. They are called elephant capturing team. In order to relocate an elephant officers should thoroughly identify his behavior and seize him in a point where officers can get reached easily by a vehicle. Further the place should be free from human activities. This process is called elephant camping and it can take about a week or even more. Thus the officers have kept eyes on him for days and ultimately they captured him near the forest boundary. It was around 8.00pm and officers had to start the mission in dark. Initially the team was rushed to sedate the elephant. Sedative drug was injected using the trantranquilizer gun. By lapse of few minutes the elephant got sedated and anchored in a tree. Then the officers tied the legs using a soft rope. This is done for the ease of controlling the elephant and not to hurt him. These type of missions require large number of experts. There were many instances where officers have lost their lives during the course of the relocating process. Unlike others this elephant has a short tail and officers used to call him short tail elephant. He had some small wounds which were arisen due to human activities. Hence he was given antibiotics, multivitamins, anti-inflammatory and all the other necessary drugs to cure the wound by assuming her body weight. Multivitamins are given to boost energy and immunity since the she was weaken due to lack of food. Antibiotics will boost immunity within the elephant’s body to expedite the wound healing process. Antibiotics are usually intra muscularly and they will fight against the secondary microbial infections on wounds. Anti- inflammatory will prevent the inflammations and infection in to inner organs. After tying up the legs officers brought an excavator to clear the wood. During that time the elephant was automatically revised from sedation and he became aggressive. But no chance for any damage, because the legs were tied thoroughly. There is a special custom made vehicle which was strong enough to retain the weight of the elephant. According to the size of the vehicle officers made an inclined path using a JCB. Then they let the customized vehicle to come along that path. Slowly the officers took the elephant into the vehicle and closed the front door. At this point he was partially sedated hence bit aggressive. Thus his legs were tighten thoroughly. In order to maintain the necessary body temperature he was bathed and then given the foods. Then he was taken to the reserve forest. Usually elephants are not taken in bright sun light. Ultimately the officers cut the tightened rope and then he was released to the reserve forest. Finally the elephant was given a safer home,where he can roam freely and find his own foods without confronting with the humans.
