Today my child is 4 months and I reflect on how this journey as a mother has been to an Angel thus far. I’ve learned how visceral grief is. This process is not linear or logical and, honestly, it was hard for me to accept that because I don’t want to spend my days in agony. However, I’ve since learned that grief is love. So, I will grieve as long as I need to and want to because I love her that much. I’ve also learned that I am a Mother. I was told this early on by friends and family, but it wasn’t until I heard this from my fellow Angel Mothers that I was able to understand this and believe it to be true. Just like any other parent, I wake up, first thing everyday, with my child on my mind with a routine in how I engage with her. And as long as I’m breathing, I’m thinking of her and missing her. So, I’ve learned it’s important to bring her up and say her name. Kamaiu Sol does not have to be avoided and I will acknowledge her presence everyday.
