Fuji. With an estimated 35,000 plum trees, festival street food stalls, and everything from 梅干し“umeboshi” (pickled plums) to 梅酒 “umeshu” (plum wine) on sale, Odawara has to be home to Japan’s biggest PLUM blossom festival! 梅, or “Ume” (plum blossoms) are a truly underrated flower and often fly under the radar of tourists in Japan, but if you want to beat the crowds and 花見 “hanami” (flower-viewing) groups later on in spring, set up your picnic blanket under the reds, whites, and pinks of the plum blossoms!
