Kalam and Blair seated at talks STORYLINE Former Indian President A.P.J. Kalam has died at a hospital after collapsing while delivering a lecture in northeastern India. Kalam, who was known as the father of India's military missile programme, was 83. He was India's president from 2002 until 2007. He died on Monday evening at a hospital, according to the chief secretary of Meghalaya state. After his presidential term ended, Kalam travelled to remote schools and colleges, speaking to students and inspiring them to follow their dreams. Even after he left office, he received hundreds of emails each day from high-schoolers and young people seeking his advice.
