Beat, the super star band covering 1980's King Crimson songs, opened the second set of their concert performing Waiting Man featuring Danny Carey at stage front on percussion at the Ruth Eckard Hall in Clearwater, Florida on September 28, 2024. Waiting Man was written by Adrian Belew (who wrote all the lyrics), Robert Fripp, Tony Levin and Bill Bruford and was the fourth track on Beat, King Crimson's ninth studio album released in June 1982, and the first King Crimson to feature the same lineup as its predecessor. Beat was inspired by the history and writings of the Beat Generation, spurred by the 25th anniversary of Beat writer Jack Kerouac's novel "On the Road". Robert Fripp suggested to Adrian Belew that Beat writings become the "lyrical underpinning" of the album.
