Contact with the overhead powerlines is an accident that can cause severe loss if not properly handled. During the work activity whether it is working at height or lifting work, contact can be established accidentally. If the work activity is work at height and power lines are nearby they should be either isolated or rerouted. In some cases both actions can't be done, so a safe distance should be made and electrical safety equipment should be used. If possible before job commencement the wires should be insulated and most importantly workers should be provided with the proper clothing to avoid any accidental contact. If the lifting activity is being performed, the lifting equipment should be placed at a safe location away from the wires and the load should be moved safely. If the contact is made accidentally ensure you stay where you are and wait for help. If you have to leave the area as there is sparking or fire has ignited, don't try to walk or run, otherwise, you'll get electrocuted and severe consequences can be faced. The worker should join both feet and safely in a balanced position touch the ground and jump forward so that they reach a safe location. Or you can walk by keeping both feet in contact. Make sure your toe of one foot is touching the front side of the second foot and there should be no gap. The gap between feet will create the passage for current to move through your body by entering from one foot and exiting via the second foot. Once you make your decision of exiting the energized area, go as far as you can, at least get 10m (30ft) away. During the whole process don't try to touch any item.
