Widor's Toccata is most often heard on large pipe organs - but this time we hear it on a reed organ. This reed organ does not respond like a pipe when this type of piece is played, but for the limitations that it has it still seems to work. The organ is mounted on a temporary dolly for transportation, so the energy required to hand pump and play makes it rock a sway a lot. Played on a reed organ model called the 'Cathedral' , made by Doherty Organ and Piano Co. in Clinton, Ontario Canada in 1907. This is the largest reed organ that they offered in their catalogue. The wind needed for this instrument is provided with the hand lever, which Lori was again willing to do - this was not easy work for a piece like this! Thanks Lori! :) The organ was a total wreck a few years ago, it was shipped from a shed in Ireland to Canada, and rebuilt over a two year period. I called it the Epic Canadian Reed Organ Rescue, since it was the craziest thing to ship this pile of junk. The restoration can be seen at http://www.rodneyjantzi.com
