La Madrague is the famous property acquired by Brigitte Bardot in 1958 in Saint-Tropez, on the Canebiers road. At the time, the actress was looking for a house "feet in the water", she ardently wanted to live on the shores of the Mediterranean but could not find anything that really suited her. While she was filming La Femme et le Pantin (1959) in Seville, southern Spain, her parents, who already owned a residence in Saint-Tropez, visited La Madrague. But the case was such exclusivity that it had to be done quickly. On the insistence of her mother telling her that the house corresponded to everything she wanted, Brigitte Bardot made the trip to the small fishing village and fell in love with the property. She acquired it immediately, for 24 million old French francs. From then on, La Madrague was the scene of unforgettable parties that made the headlines of the Parisian newspapers. Sacha Distel, Alain Delon, Jean-Paul Belmondo, and many other personalities passed by. In 1966, Gunter Sachs even dropped a shower of rose petals on the property from a helicopter as a declaration of love. In 1963, Bardot sang La Madrague, which alludes to this house. A few years after Brigitte Bardot retired from film sets, in 1992 she donated her property to the Brigitte-Bardot Foundation to ensure its sustainability. In fact, she is the usufructuary and declares today “to live with her animals” which, when they die, have small graves in the garden.
