'Bhadreswara Stone Inscriptions & Mukhalinga Shrine' Sri Bhadreswara/Bira Bhadreswara Mahadev is one of the prominent Shiva shrines of Cuttack district (At Bhadreswara village of Mahanga). I have had numerous visits to this place earlier, but last time I surprisingly came across three stone blocks where I found few lines of inscriptions. Don't know how I missed those during my previous visits, may be the writings are highly eroded..that's why. I found the inscriptions very much similar to the Kalasa inscriptions of Langula Narasinghdeva found at Chandrashekhar temple at Dhenkanal. Though they are highly eroded, some of the odia fonts like 'ସ', 'ପ', 'ଇ' are clearly visible. This provides the impression that the inscriptions were written in proto Odia. Bhadreswara is famous for its unique Mukhalinga worshiped inside a circular Yonipitha/Shakti. The Pujaka Sri Niranjana Raula offered me to have a very good darshana of this incredible shrine and I videographed the moment. Do watch this very interesting video!!
