Music @ The Royal London Hospital - Pupils from George Green's School entertain at the hospital

Today's recital was a joy from beginning to end! George Green's School on the Isle of Dogs has a long history of achievement since its founding in 1828, and it places a modern emphasis on a broad-based curriculum that also teaches its students the cultural, scientific and social knowledge they need to engage fully in the interpersonal, economic and democratic life of their community. The pupils who performed today certainly proved to be excellent ambassadors for their school. Equally importantly, they showed they are very capable musicians too! They presented a varied programme of solo and group numbers, and on multiple instruments, beginning with a string ensemble who performed a couple of pieces, the second of which was the 'allegretto' movement from "Palladio" by Carl Jenkins. Moving on, there were a couple of very good piano soloists, one of whom played a nice laid back version of the classic "Misty". The mood then changed as a group of three electric guitarists - plus a drummer on the cajon - laid down some catchy riffs, and accompanied two solo vocalists. A lovely version of the song "Somewhere only we know" was up next, and then a delightful number called "Magnetic" made famous by the group 'ILLIT'. Last - but by no means least - was a sparky and stirring rendition of the ever-popular indie song by the Zutons - "Valerie" - that has been widely covered by (among others) Mark Ronson, Amy Winehouse and Bruno Mars. It is so difficult to choose which performance to record here... They were all so good! By default, the clip shown here is the very last one of the programme ("Valerie"); but the Friends of the Hospital want to thank ALL the performers - including the music staff - for bringing such wonderful LIVE music into the hospital foyer. Your hard work in preparing for your visit was greatly appreciated by all who heard you. Thank you - (and please come back again!)
