Some talk about colour - from a (potentially) controversial starting point :) | Adult Colouring

Disclaimer: All content on my channel is intended for adults. Important note!! The colour talk and tips that I share in this video are only my own personal thoughts - you can agree or disagree (kindly and politely :)) with as much or as little as you like. :) Experienced artists and colourists probably won't find this video terribly helpful - and may want to take most of what I say and toss it out the window. :) These are things that I've learned (as a non-artist and someone who REALLY struggles to think like/view things as an artist) that, hopefully, make my colouring appear more balanced, cohesive, and nice to look at. :) I've been thinking lots about colour. And I've come to a realization which may or may not be kind of controversial (and it's possible that I may change my mind about it in the future :)). Let's talk colour! Link to a video by the wonderful Jennifer Stay over at ‪@ColoringBliss‬ about her Quick Color Picker system:    • New COLOR PICKING Books for 2023!   Link to the Quick Color Picker printed book through her storefront: https://www.coloringbliss.com/product... My main (but possibly controversial) starting point: *Colour choice/colour balance is more important than shading. The tips given in the video: *Don't be afraid to try stuff; you can't be afraid of messing up. *Bright primary (and even secondary) colours can be hard to control and balance. If you're unsure of colour choices, tertiary colours are your friend. *If you do want to include bright primary or secondary colours, consider using them in just a few small areas and making the rest of the colours more tertiary and/or muted. *Too many different colours on a page (particularly too many different bright primary or secondary colours) can make your page look chaotic and doesn't give the eye a place to rest when looking at your page. *It's especially important to limit your colour palette if you have a page with a ton of little, tiny elements on it. *Bright orange (not an earthy orange) is one of the hardest colours to make work with other colours. *If you feel you need to add another colour to your picture but you're trying to limit your colour palette, try introducing warm grey or French grey (or, to a lesser extent, cool grey) as your additional "colour". *Bringing in some yellow-green (particularly more muted or darker shades) to a picture can help to ground your other colour choices - particularly if it feels like your other colour choices might be veering towards the "clashing/jarring/not working" side of things. *Including white elements on your page can also be a way to limit your colour palette, give the eye somewhere to rest, and to help to pull an "on-the-verge-of-out-of-control" colour palette back into control. *The tertiary colours are going to be the most "forgiving". If you have a page where your colour palette has gotten out of control, it's going to be easier to "save" it if you're colouring with tertiary colours as opposed to primary or secondary colours. *Colours in the "true green" family can be really difficult to make work with other colours. It's often better to go with yellow-greens (or even blue-greens). *Black is another good choice for elements on your page where you need another "colour" but you don't want to bring in another colour. Thank you for watching! Keep calm and colour on! :) Connie #adultcoloringchannel
