Buy 2nd Class Tickets on the Ella/Kandy Train! 🇱🇰

#EllaKandyTrain #SriLanka #TrainSriLanka The 6 hour train ride between Kandy and Ella is one of the most well known and popular tourist attractions in Sri Lanka. Offering diverse and scenic views of the surrounding countryside, woodland, hills and tea estates, the train ride has been popularised by images of tourists hanging our of the train carriages for pictures. Honestly, I thought this would be overhyped. A 6 hour train journey that people take in order to get a picture for Instagram. Whilst there are certainly lots of pictures taken, the journey itself did not disappoint. The more famous journey is from Kandy to Ella, but I went the other way round (Ella to Kandy). However, to split the journey up and also in order to climb Adam's Peak, I decided to stop halfway at the station in Nanu Oya (close to Nuwara Eliya). As you'll see from the vlog, the scenery was spectacular and the fact that the carriage doors can be opened adds to the unique experience of travelling through Sri Lanka via train. Ella to Nanu Oya is 64 km and takes around 3 hours. I was told that 1st class had airconditioning but is often closed off (i.e carriage doors remain closed) so I decided to book 2nd class. I'm glad I did! 2nd Class: 500Rs $2.50 USD £1.90 GBP €2.25 EUR The 2nd Class tickets gave you an allocated seat and it's advisable to turn up around an hour early to make sure you can get a ticket - obviously there are a finite amount of seats. The 3rd class tickets had no such luxury and are the most crowded carriages on the train by quite a stretch: 3rd Class Tickets: 150 Rs $0.74 USD £0.56 GBP €0.68 EUR Whilst 3rd class tickets are a 3rd of the price of second class tickets, travelling by train (and public transport) in Sri Lanka is incredibly cheap. The issue with 3rd class is the amount of people in each train carriage. You simply couldn't move, couldn't get a seat or a to the doors to observe the scenery. For the sake of saving £1.50 you could find yourself standing in the aisle for hours on end. It's a must do if you're in Sri Lanka. Not only is it incredibly affordable to travel by train across the country, but you get to take in Sri Lanka's beautiful scenery at the same time. Take photos, don't take photos, just make sure you get a seat and enjoy the ride! 0:00 - Intro 0:58 - Tickets for Kandy/Ella Train 2:01 - Train is delayed 4:21 - Kandy/Ella Train pictures 5:12 - Difference between 2nd class and 3rd class 7:23 - View of Sri Lanka from train 8:53 - Tea Estates 9:58 - Review of Kandy/Ella Train Shot on: GoPro Hero 9 Black (with media mod) Sony RX10 IV
