India–UAE Comprehensive Economic Cooperation and Partnership Agreement

India–UAE Comprehensive Economic Cooperation and Partnership Agreement: Opportunities and Areas of Cooperation India recently signed a Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (CEPA) with the UAE, India’s third largest trade partner. This agreement is slated to benefit about 90% of the bilateral trade between the two countries and increase the value of bilateral trade from US$ 60 billion to US$ 100 billion in the next five years. The CEPA with UAE is India’s first bilateral trade agreement in the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) and is likely to provide greater access to West Asian and African markets. The agreement is likely to boost trade in a variety of goods such as gems and jewellery, leather, plastic products, agriculture products, medical equipment, pharmaceutical items, vehicles, financial services, promote investments and innovations (especially in the food processing sector). This panel will focus on the opportunities that the CEPA presents to Indian businesses and the role that the trade pact can play in post-pandemic economic recovery in India.
