Dr. Ebraheim’s educational animated video describes lesions of the shoulder -Bankart Lesion. Bankart lesion is the most common lesion of anterior shoulder instability following anterior shoulder dislocation. It involves avulsion of the anterior inferior labrum. Bankart lesion can be either fibrous or bony. This is the area where anterior band of the inferior glenohumeral ligament inserts. The Bankart lesion occurs due to anterior shoulder dislocation. If the patient has a posterior shoulder dislocation, this may cause a Reverse bankart lesion. During the anterior dislocation, the IGHL (most important structure) stabilized the shoulder, as well as limits the anterior inferior subluxation and dislocation, especially in abduction and external rotation. As the labroligamentous complex are avulsed from the glenoid, the scapular periosteum ruptures, and this differentiates a Bankart lesion from other Bankart-like lesions. Bankart lesion is usually a surgical lesion.
