Community Treatment Orders for Psychiatric Patients

A patient detained under certain Sections of the Mental Health Act, including Section 3 and Section 37, may be put on a Community Treatment Order. This allows early discharge from hospital with the safeguards of the Mental Health Act of being able to recall the patient to hospital, thus protecting them from relapse. This will happen if they do not make themselves available to be seen by the psychiatrists, or their mental health deteriorates and they need to have treatment of their mental disorder in hospital for the health, safety or safety of others.
