Shetphal, also known as the Land of Snakes, is a village where cobras are the same as any other pets Shetpal is a village, where snakes have no restriction in their movement and none of the 2,600 plus villagers ever harm them in any way. However, about 200 km from Pune, Maharashtra, in the Sholapur district, is located a village named Shetpal In Shetpal village under Mohol taluka of Solapur district, the residents not only worship the snakes but they also reside with them without any apprehension. Nearly 2600 villagers live in this village, located 200 km from Pune, and no incident of snakebite has been reported from here yet. Shetpal, a sleepy village near Solapur, about 200 km from Pune is a village full of snakes — and they certainly are charmers. The non-descript village of merely 2600 people looks normal from the outside with its kuccha houses and narrow lanes but has an eerie, bizarre feel to it Snakes and spirituality go hand in hand in this village. Here, each and every house has a special area designated for the cobras, a temple in fact. This special snake abode is called devasthanam and people are so dedicated to this that when they construct a new house, they make sure to reserve a place for the snake.
