3 Minute Demo: Comparing a 1958 Fender tweed Tremolux to a 1966 black panel Tremolux

Hey everyone! Thank you so much for watching. Below are some details and thoughts on this video: I recorded both of these amps using the same mic combo (a Shure SM57 and a Royer R-121) positioned on the speaker center against the grill cloth; the signal chain remained the same and untouched for both recordings. I realize that this type of video will never be an exact 1:1 comparison, and it lacks certain scientific guarantees that might be available in a more controlled environment. However, I also do not think it takes an audio scientist to hear the very clear and obvious differences in the sounds of these two circuits. I believe that the differences you hear in this video can be extrapolated to reflect many of the differences you might hear between a 50's era tweed amp and a 60's era black panel amp. The circuits and construction are quite different, as are the resulting sounds. The guitars I played in this video are a 1955 Fender Esquire and a Gretsch Chet Atkins G6120. I used a tiny bit of reverb via a UAF Delverb that remained on the same setting for both amps (quite honestly just because that's how I tend to use both amps in a real recording situation -- no other reason). ALSO -- If you happen to be a country guitar fan and you recognized the solo in the first "In the Mix" clip, you have a keen ear! That was Redd Volkaert's third solo from his version of "Truck Drivin' Man" from the For the Ladies album. This video was not sponsored by any company or individual.
