DBC Meeting: "Illinois Peregrines: Back from the Brink?" with Mary Hennen

The September 12, 2024 meeting of the DuPage Birding Club featured "Illinois Peregrines: Back from the Brink?" with Mary Hennen. Mary is Assistant Collections Manager of Birds at the Field Museum and Director of the Chicago Peregrine Program. She is the author of a beautiful, illustrated book called "The Peregrine Returns: The Art and Architecture of an Urban Raptor Recovery." Once on the Endangered Species List and extirpated in Illinois from 1951 until 1986, the Peregrine Falcon population is now past historic levels. Mary's presentation will take us through the recovery of the Peregrines in Illinois with many insights into their behavior and ecology. As the majority of the population now lives in an urban habitat, learn what it means to live in close proximity to this remarkable bird.
