On November 9th, 1913, SS Henry B. Smith left Marquette, Michigan as a blizzard ravaged Lake Superior. She would go on to be one of 19 ships lost in the Great Lakes Storm of 1913, also commonly called the White Hurricane. The decision to leave port that day and what happened in her final moments has baffled researchers for decades. In 2013, her long-lost wreck was finally discovered only a few miles from where she began her voyage, shedding some light on the tragedy that claimed the lives of 25 sailors.
