NSW Police Bodycam: Naked Woman Attacks an Officer With a Knife

On the 14th of August 2021 at 9:30 PM, Police approached a house on Tucker Ave in the suburb of Balgownie. The officers from the Wollongong Police station were the first at the location in search of two individuals, Jason Lenehan and Brianna Lenehan, both siblings. Police made contact with Jason at the front door of his house; the officers began questioning him in relation to an intimidation incident involving a motor vehicle. Jason refused the allegations made by neighbours that were relayed to the police. This is where the police officer ( Senior Constable Brown) announced that he was under arrest for further investigation. The situation escalated when Jason's sister Brianna came to the door. The same officer also advised Brianna that she was under arrest also (this was because neighbours described two persons in a vehicle, one male and one female.) After being cautioned that both were under arrest, Brianna walked away from the front door towards to kitchen; police were given the impression that she would get "some clothes on." This was incorrect. However, a knife was produced from the kitchen and used to attack officers. As seen on Senior Constable Browns Bodycam, he is stabbed in the hand while attempting to use his taser. This footage was played in a Wollongong District Court on the 16th of March, 2022. Judge John Hatzistergos said in court, "(Brianna) "suffered profound deprivation in her upbringing" and was also a “damaged and vulnerable young woman.” This was due to Brianna's exposure to drugs and alcohol at a young age; when Brianna was 15, her mother was in and out of prison and was killed by her partner. Brianna Lenehan, who is a mother of two, pleaded guilty to the charges and received three and a half years in prison.
