Podcast Episode: Andrew Dell'Antonio Rethinks the Syllabus

In this episode we sit down with Andrew Dell'Antonio as he talks about his approach to teaching, how it has evolved over time, and a new teaching initiative that he is undertaking with the help of E.G. Gionfriddo. Our project, Building Rigorously Compassionate Syllabi: Fostering Individual Accountability and Community Care, starts from our conviction that students and instructors alike want vulnerability, transparency, dedication, and flexibility from each other. This requires establishing and maintaining trust between students and teachers through multiple avenues for student-teacher communication. As performing artists at UT, we learn in community, not individually. We want to affirm a culture in which every person who joins a course learning community is accountable for their own learning process, and also accountable for contributing to the learning process of the community as a whole. Also, the community is collectively accountable for the learning process of each of its members.
