It seems like just about every week we see another live service game get shut down. Without a supportive player base to purchase a never ending onslaught of microtransactions, season passes, and battle passes, the development costs can become unsustainable, quickly. But if there weren’t already enough avenues for monetization, we’ve got yet another to throw on the pile. NFTs. So what if I told you there’s a live service, early access, rogue-lite that costs $25 and has a $15,000 NFT micro-transaction? That already sounds like a disaster. Now what if I told you that I actually enjoyed playing it? Would you believe me? #Superior is the best #nftgame I've played so far, without a doubt. However, it doesn't exactly use NFTs in any innovative, or interesting way. Instead, Superior uses #crypto as nothing more than an excuse to have some of the most predatory monetization I've ever seen in a video game. What could have been a fun, co-op rogue-lite is instead an unknown, dead, and overall mediocre game, thanks to the pointless implementation of NFTs. Not to mention the fact that this game is published by our old favorite, Gala Games. Did I mention that this is supposed to have play to earn? How is that going to work? Are they just going to pay you to inflate their player counts? I feel bad for the team at Drifter Entertainment. Their game doesn't deserve this treatment. But unfortunately, when you play with crypto, you're bound to get burned one way or another. Maybe one day they'll drop Gala Games and remove all NFTs from the game, and maybe then they would attract a mainstream audience. But in the game's current state, there isn't even enough content to attract any players on Steam thanks to the rather high $25 price tag. And that's for a version without any NFTs! Thanks for watching my gameplay and review of Superior, the best NFT game I've played so far.
