I was shown me this tune recently, and I immediately thought that such a sweet and simple melody would work nicely on the low-pitched minstrel banjo. The tuning is the relative Double C tuning (gCGCD) lowered five half steps to dGDGA. So the key is G, and this is in effect, a Double G tuning. Milking Song is a very old piece from the Isle of Man, rooted in the Manx tradition.
