TESTED: Trek Fuel EXe 8 alloy e-bike with SRAM Transmission GX

Last year Trek released the new Fuel EXe e-bike to global acclaim. The 29er trail bike combined a highly capable trail bike platform with one of the sleekest eMTB systems on the market, due to the co-release with the TQ HPR-50 motor, battery and head unit. While this model was only available in carbon frames in 2022, Trek have just released alloy framed models. And in Australia these will start at $8499.99 and run to the Fuel EXE 8 for $11499.99 as shown here. The Trek Fuel EXe has 50Nm of torque with a maximum of 300W assistance, with a 360Wh in-tube battery, all from the TQ-HPR50 motor system from Germany. The motor is near silent, and thanks to how the motor engages, it should be ultra durable thanks to less moving parts. Lots of standard Trek features like the MinoLink geometry adjustment, Active Braking Pivot and internal cable routing are all here. As with the carbon models, the alloy Fuel Exe come with 150mm travel forks and 140mm travel in the back end. Trek state that the bike is mullet approved, and you can pop a 160mm travel fork in there as well. While Trek have their MinoLink for adjustments to the seat angle, head angle, reach and bottom bracket height, the alloy EXe has the head set cups to allow 1 degree more or less head angle – something not found on the carbon Exe.
