The original Katana 100 is one of our favourite amps of the past few years, a great sounding modelling amplifier, packed full of features with an affordable price tag. The new Katana Artist isn't a replacement, it's an upgraded version with a more boutique look and sound, which sits in-between the original Katanas and the top-of-the-range Waza amplifier that the Katana modelling tech has been based on. Firstly, the five amp models have been re-voiced to offer a more refined tone, with crisper highs and a richer low end. There's also two new switches on the control panel, "Cabinet Resonance" and "Line Out Air Feel" which alter bass response and virtual mic placing on the line out respectively, making the Katana Artist even more versatile both live and in the studio. Just like the original Katana, the new Artist model features over 50 onboard Boss effects and has three power options, 100w, 50w or 0.5w, so it's as happy on stage or at rehearsal as it is at home for quiet practice. The Artist's cabinet has also had a complete redesign. Although it is considerably bigger, it's still pretty lightweight for the size, has an upgraded handle, a semi-closed back for added punch, and thicker construction for added resonance. Finally, the biggest upgrade is to the speaker. When creating the Waza Craft G12W 12" driver, Boss meticulously studied some of the best sounding speakers from several eras, and it really makes a huge different to the amps tone, adding an extra layer of detail.
