Timber Design Society 2021 Series | 8 Corrosion of Fastener in Timber Presenter: Zhengwei Li This presentation outlines the current scheme and solutions used to specify fasteners to minimise corrosion risks in timber structures and to comply with the New Zealand Building Code clauses B2 Durability. This is technically supported by a number of BRANZ’s research activities including: • classifying and mapping the atmospheric corrosivity of New Zealand’s challenging, diverse and unique built environment • investigating the characteristics and materials degradation in representative micro-climates and building micro-environments • testing the performance of mild steel, galvanised steel and stainless steel fastening and fixing components when embedded into timbers treated with various copper-bearing preservatives.
