Video of this very rare 1981 Yamaha XS1100LH "Midnight Special" 1100cc at the VME Vintage Motorcycle Enthusiasts show in Seattle. "Close up view" at "The Shop". In 1979 Yamaha unveiled the 1980 midnight Special, a unique mixture of black chrome and genuine gold to complete the attention of the motorcycle press. Given the fluctuating price of gold, Yamaha ended up formulating a synthetic gold (Sy-gold), for the production models of this special edition. Built upon the reliable platform of the XS1100LH, this bike had both form and function. While an extended fork, teardrop tank, and stepped saddle made it clear this was a cruiser. The double overhead cam 4-cylinder engine gave it a powerful performance unmatched by contemporary V-twins.
