In this episode, I reviewed a few new releases for October 2022, as follows: Introduction 0:00 Juliette Has A Gun Ego Stratis 2:04 Gucci A Reason To Love 12:13 Givenchy Equivoque 18:13 Laboratorio Olfattivo Limone 24:36 Ginori 1735 Rajathra Palace candle 31:50 Marc-Antoine Barrois Encelade 34:27 Dior Diorella 47:38 — Here’s the blotter update… I won’t say anything about Diorella, because we all know it’s a masterpiece, but it is worth noting that there isn’t a huge difference at all between the drydowns of the modern edt and the older bottle. As you’d expect, Limone fades fairly quickly, but at least it does not resort to heavy-handed musks; Ellena’s restraint in this regard is commendable. Ego Stratis would have benefited from a similar approach: sadly, it settles onto a base of predictable shampoo musks. The Gucci never breaks away from cliches, whereas Equivoque continues to impress all the way to its final stages with a well-judged balance of woods, spices and smokiness. Despite my personal misgivings, the most interesting member of this bunch is arguably Encelade, with its bizarre, fog-horn-loud, plasticky vetiver and a green note reminiscent of the awful spray-on snow you used to get in the 80s for Christmas trees.
