This spring her seventh album Freya will be released, signaling her comeback as a band leader. It follows a great international adventure collaborating with the legends who inspired her, Herbie Hancock and Wayne Shorter, and creating alliances with famous peers such as Esperanza Spalding and Terri Lyne Carrington. Freye marks a fresh start with a new label (Edition Records), new energy and a new exciting band featuring American trumpeter Ralph Alessi. Freya is Tineke’s most personal album to date, named after the Nordic goddess of fertility, love and lust. Freya is part of the mythology of Friesland, where Tineke was born: Frisians are the children of Freya. The album pays tribute to creation in the broadest sense. For her compositions, Tineke was inspired by motherhood, by her youth in Friesland and by powerful women, both mythical and living.
