Together with the Antwerp Symphony Orchestra, where she has been principal conductor since 2019, Elim presents a highly personal selection from over a century of ballet music. At the beginning of the 20th century, ballet and symphonic music became closely intertwined. Les Ballets Russes created a stir in Paris with Diaghilev and Nijinsky. For them, Maurice Ravel wrote his Daphnis et Chloé, which premiered there in 1912. The same fire that conquered Paris and the world was expressed by Sergei Prokofiev in his music for the ballet Romeo and Juliet. Almost a hundred years later, American composer Elizabeth Ogonek wrote All These Lighted Things (Three Little Dances for Orchestra), an orchestral work waiting for a choreographer.
