We toured a Korean Natural Pig Farm in Hawai'i (Double "D" Ranch Hawai'i) to understand how KNF, this more humane and environmentally cleaner style of piggery, works. We were there with legendary bodyboarder Mike Stewart on the Hamamkua Coast of Hawai'i Island aka the Big Island. The owners, Darcy and JoAnna Nobriga have built a fairly large KNF style pig facility which raises pigs on mulch instead of on concrete like standard factory pig farms in the U.S. This is game changer for the pigs and for the environment. Check out the longer episode when we eat the pork raised at Double "D" Ranch Hawai'i and have an epic bodyboarding session with Mike. • Mike Stewart: Surfing and Eating with... Pig are smart animals and deserve to be treated humanely. Current standard pig farms in the U.S. are overcroded and inhumane to pigs. They also smell bad, become incubators for diseases, and pollute the surrounding environment. KNF pig farming offers an alternative to that way of raising pigs to eat and Double "D" Ranch Hawaii is leading the way to better pig farming here in Hawai'i. In 2012 I quit my cubicle job in the city, and moved to Hawai'i Island. I changed my career entirely to match my love and passion for food and travel. I was also heavily influenced by Anthony Bourdain and his food-based travel adventures as well as Hugh Fearnley Whittingstall and his emphasis on local and sustainable. The Culinary Edge TV combines food, culture, travel, education, surfing, fishing, story-telling, music, humor, recipes, and interesting characters in decidedly unique and authentic food adventures filmed around the world. If you like local and ethnic food, family recipes, unusual locations, travel, and other cultures, with a splash of humor, and a pinch of education, CETV is for you. We also try to feature the music of the places we are filming and opportunities to catch or forage our own food.
