Triumph Unleashes the 2025 Speed Twin 1200: A Neo-Retro Powerhouse

One of the most popular modern classics has just been updated for 2025. Triumph has given its Speed Twin 1200 a refresh, but the big news is the introduction of the higher-spec Triumph Speed Twin 1200 RS. The Speed Twin 1200 sits in Triumph’s neo-retro lineup as a sportier option compared to the Bonneville T120. Powered by a lively 1,200 cc parallel-twin engine, it swaps the Bonneville’s relaxed style for a more aggressive look, featuring 17-inch alloy wheels and sharper design elements. While stylish, the bike is also built for performance. At first glance, the new Speed Twin 1200 looks similar to the previous version, aside from new graphics. The updates are subtle but numerous. The engine now produces 5 more horsepower, bringing it to 105 PS at 7,750 rpm, while retaining the same 270-degree firing order and low-inertia crankshaft, with a peak torque of 112 Nm. Standard features include two riding modes—‘Road’ and ‘Rain’—and enhanced cornering ABS and traction control. Triumph has also adjusted the riding position, adding higher handlebars that sit farther forward. The suspension has been updated with Marzocchi parts, including 43 mm upside-down forks and twin rear shocks with preload adjustment. Radial brake calipers and Metzeler Sportec M9RR tires round out the upgrades. Visually, the bike has a more sculpted fuel tank, a new flip-up filler cap, streamlined side panels, and a forward-leaning design that emphasizes its aggressive nature. The new finned cast aluminum headlight brackets, LED headlight, and part-LCD, part-TFT display (with USB-C charging) are also notable changes. Other updates include shorter mufflers, a redesigned bench seat, and new seven-split-spoke aluminum wheels. The new Triumph Speed Twin 1200 RS takes this platform to the next level. As with other RS models, it features higher-end components. The Marzocchi forks are fully adjustable, and the rear shocks are replaced with adjustable Öhlins units. It also gets twin Brembo Stylema calipers at the front and Metzeler Racetec RR K3 tires. Ergonomically, the RS model has a more aggressive riding position, with a higher rear end, lower handlebars, and foot pegs set farther back and higher than the base model. The RS also includes an extra ‘Sport’ riding mode and a quick-shifter, marking a first for the modern Bonneville line. In terms of style, the RS comes in ‘Baja Orange’ and ‘Sapphire Black,’ featuring distinct ‘RS’ decals and detailed striping. It also has contrast stitching on the seat and brushed aluminum fenders. Triumph offers a range of accessories for both models, including a café racer-style passenger seat cover and clip-on handlebars. Both models will be available starting in December, with prices in the UK at £12,495 for the Speed Twin 1200 and £14,495 for the RS. In the US, the prices start at $13,595 and $15,995.
