Ben Rogers, a surfer and seasoned bore rider from Bristol, ventured north in order to surf the tidal bore on the River Mersey. Despite a modest spring tide, a reasonable bore was produced, possibly as a result of the river being exceptionally low. Though the bore wave was quite small, especially compared to that on the River Severn which Ben is well acquainted with, his skill and determination enabled him to enjoy time aboard his personally crafted surfboard… standing up! Ben surfed the Mersey bore the day before I videoed him. He kindly supplied the on-board video he took on that day and I have incorporated it into my video to enrich the perspective. I had arranged to meet Ben at Warrington to witness and film the attempt at surfing the bore. I was sceptical that it could be done, but my doubt soon vanished and I am wondering if Ben is the first person to successfully surf the tidal bore on the River Mersey. Ben manufactures surfboards to order and more information can be found about his business, ‘Leaf Surfboards’ at: / leaf_surfboards or on Facebook at: / 1847359005297801 Filming location: Forrest Way Bridge, Warrington Date filmed: 14th August 2022 Expected high tide at Liverpool Gladstone Dock: 9.4m @ 13:43 The bore passed beneath the bridge at 13:38 All times GMT+1.
