Use Headphones for better experience last verse: Noel Rawsthrone This is the defining hymn of Pentecost and undoubtedly one of Ralph Vaughan Williams finest tunes. Ralph Vaughan Williams was born in the village of Down Ampney in 1872, and his father was Vicar of All Saints' Church. Ralph was baptised in the church there and named this tune after the place where he was born. In the church liturgical calendar we only sing this once a year however we owe much to Bianco of Siena who wrote the original text. The words speak volumes of the yearning to discover the Comforter and to make this central to everything in life. It is He that becomes the place and who makes His dwelling within us.
