On the western edge of the Amazon Rainforest, Tena is an easy-going and welcoming town where you can experience part of this mighty jungle. Tena is popular with travellers, since it is known as being peaceful, orderly, clean and more geared towards tourists. Many inexpensive hotels, tourist agencies, and restaurants cater to backpackers who commonly use the town as a jumping-off point for trips into the rainforest. Tena is surrounded by forested hills and is located at the edge of the Andes, which are visible to the west. Situated in Ecuador's Amazon jungle area, Tena is the capital of the Napo Province an attractive and quiet city in the Amazon rainforest. Known as the “cinnamon capital" of Ecuador, Tena has emerged as one of the top industrialized centers as founded by the missionary explorers. Tena is the home to a major regional hospital and many tourist-related businesses, including a small size airport and a vital bus terminal. Rafting in Tena has reached near-legendary status, with whitewater enthusiasts since the 2005 World Rafting Championships were organized in the area. Tena boasts the best rafting and kayaking in Ecuador and, some say, the world. So, for rafting, kayaking and jungle tours, Tena seems to be a top choice. One of the highlights of our visit to Tena was our stay in a rustic cabin near the river and Tena town: https://www.airbnb.ca/rooms/27224895 Our rustic cabin had all the comforts of a modern house but in the jungle. It’s a 5-minute walk from the river beach called La Soga and a 15-minute walk from the center of Tena. It is accessed through a second order road by car and by foot along the "La Mission" trail. The house is located in the neighbourhood called Amazonas. Completely independent wooden house of two floors, 120 square meters of construction and 500 square meters of green area. The first floor consists of a private room for two people (double bed), a private bathroom and a kitchen, also has a covered porch where is the dining room, some rustic seats and a hammock. The second floor has independent access, it consists of a common area of 56 square meters where are accommodated two double beds and a single one, includes a complete bathroom. It has water, electric power, internet, smart locks on the doors, hot water, refrigerator, washing machine, induction cooker, pots and pans, silverware, crockery, coffee maker, microwave, small electric oven. Also, it has parking for two cars, a giant pet house, a small climbing wall, and spaces to store equipment such as kayaks, boats, bicycles, etc. Aside from Tena, Ecuador, adventure seekers in South America can find many different types of adventures in various towns. For example, Rio de Janeiro is a city with an international reputation for adventure. It has beautiful beaches, steep mountains, and rainforests nearby.
