The Pediatric Hospital Medicine Fellowship at Nemours Children's Hospital, Delaware, in affiliation with Sidney Kimmel Medical College at Thomas Jefferson University, provides training to prepare graduates to excel in pediatric hospital medicine in clinical, academic, administrative and research domains. The fellowship has obtained initial accreditation through the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME). The two-year program will provide clinical training for one fellow per year in multiple settings, in addition to academic mentorship, administrative guidance and research instruction. Participants may obtain a Master of Science degree (MS in Healthcare Quality and Safety, MS in Population Health, MS in Health Policy, MS in Applied Health Economics and Outcomes Research or MS in Population Health Intelligence) from Thomas Jefferson University, a Master of Science in Clinical Research from the Medical University of South Carolina, or credits toward a Master of Public Health at Jefferson or a Master of Education online. The fellowship is within our hospital’s Division of General Pediatrics, Department of Pediatrics and Sidney Kimmel Medical College at Thomas Jefferson University. The division is composed of pediatricians and staff in general pediatrics, hospital medicine, internal medicine pediatrics and child abuse pediatrics, and offers an array of educational opportunities for both faculty and fellows. We currently have thirteen hospitalists that function in various roles at the main hospital site. We also collaborate closely with colleagues in weight management, adolescent medicine, transitions of care, cerebral palsy orthopedics, and physical medicine/rehabilitation. Experiences can be tailored to fit a fellow’s individual interests. This includes collaboration with Jefferson for opportunities in medical education, use of resources through the statewide Delaware-CTR ACCEL program (Accelerating Clinical and Translational Research), participation in hospital-wide quality and safety programs through the Nemours Value-Based Services Organization, and advocacy opportunities at both the state and federal levels, including through the Nemours National Office of Policy and Prevention. The fellow will interact with other subspecialty fellows through didactic lectures and research training courses. Upon completion of the fellowship, fellows will be eligible to sit for the American Board of Pediatrics Pediatric Hospital Medicine board. They will also be competitive for academic faculty positions in children’s hospitals, as well as prepared to thrive in community hospital settings. Our Fellowship Program The 2-year program is designed to meet ACGME training requirements in pediatric hospital medicine, while allowing fellows to adapt specific training based on career goals.
