Nov17, 2022_PTA/RTA/DCA Methods for the Evaluation of Well Performance in Unconventional Reservoirs

Lecturer: Ph.D. Tom Blasingame Additional: Vaca Muerta Field Examples Abstract In this work, multiple example field cases (oil, volatile oil, dry gas) were acquired from operators in different parts of the Vaca Muerta Field. These cases were anonymized by the operators and provided for this study as part of a learning exercise. For each case, the following work was performed: Pressure Transient Analysis: (PTA) Any representative shut-ins were reviewed for diagnostic analysis and modelling. Rate Transient Analysis: (RTA) Each case was prepared for rate transient analysis with a review of the time-rate-pressure data. Diagnostic analyses were performed using productivity index and reciprocal productivity index methods. A suitable reservoir model was fitted to these data and reservoir properties were estimated. This reservoir model was extrapolated to yield a future performance curve and a 30-year EUR. Decline Curve Analysis: (DCA) The time-rate data for each case where reviewed and edited for "best trend" analysis. Standard DCA models (i.e., the Modified Hyperbolic and Power-Law Exponential models) were fitted using the diagnostic plot (i.e., the "qDb" plot). Each DCA model was extrapolated to yield a future performance curve and a 30-year EUR. As each of these cases are anonymous (and independent), the goal of this work is simply to perform consistent workflow, not to draw any specific or "global" conclusions. This webinar should be thought of a type of demonstration workshop, engagement is encouraged.
