The captain, who hasn't been named, stood in the cabin after the drama last night and told shaken people on board: 'I didn't want to put you through this today'. The footage was posted online by model Hofit Golan, once branded Israel's answer to Paris Hilton, who said: 'Our pilot was a hero!' and also filmed herself leaving the Airbus A320 and passing the four fire engines waiting on the runway. The BA plane from Naples to Gatwick landed at 12.34am, forcing the closure of the runway and the diversion of eight other flights. Footage from inside moments after the emergency landing showed passengers were visibly shaken and in tears - but they clapped and cheered as the captain thanked them for staying calm. Speaking on the Tannoy he said: 'I didn't want to put you through this but once again I thank you for all your patience and understanding. We are now safely here'.
