Teaching Christine the 1904 Rawlins Oil Process

Christine learns how to work with the Rawlins Oil Process. She's our resident expert in more kid-safe processes like the Cyanotype, Lumen, Pinhole and Anthotypes but this is her first time working in any Dichromate processes. She wants me to teach her Gumoil next. This process uses the UV light hardening properties of Potassium Dichromate to harden a gelatin layer. The hardened gelatin layer will take oil ink, while the swollen un-hardened gelatin will reject the oil ink. Basics steps are given, if you try this at home you do so at your own risk as Dichromates are carcinogenic! Find an alternative process photography instructor in your area to learn how to work with these mixtures carefully!
