You can have all the equipment and all the survival skills you like, but if you cannot make sound decisions and think through a problem in a survival scenario then you're going to have trouble executing a solution. Mental fortitude can be cultivated and in this video I share some coping strategies we used to overcome huge obstacles when we had gotten lost on a trail ride between farms in the mountains. Remember that if you have freezing moments you can use them to your advantage. Take that moment to stand back and take a deep breath. Acknowledge and identify the problem you are working with, then try to think of practical solutions. Don't panic.
