Everquest Lore: Reanimated Hands

"Kings of Tara" Kevin MacLeod (incompetech.com) Were you ever running through Unrest, or maybe Lower Guk, happily slaughtering your way through your typical undead garbage when you suddenly came across a giant, magic casting, undead hand? Congratulations! These reanimated hands are only found in a few places throughout Norrath and their encounter is truly one to remember. But they weren't always abominations, they were once normal hands, attached to normal giants that marched on the Planes of Power with their god Rallos Zek to kill the other gods. Rallos Zek's campaign, like the one before it, ended in failure and the warlord blamed his children for the defeat, refusing to shelter them from the wrath of the other gods. Rallos Zek's creations, giants in particular, were known for harassing the creations of the other gods and thus were given no mercy for their transgression. Along with being cursed with stupidity they were stripped of the majority of their innate magic, ensuring that lacked the wit and magical capacity needed to open a portal to the Planes of Power. However, this curse didn't work on the strongest members of the giant's race, and so the gods cut off these giant's hands, guaranteeing they would never again cast magic. Sometime later, necromancers found these hands and reanimated them into loyal servants, mainly to guard treasure. Apparently, these hands are rather intelligent, being able to read and write in multiple languages. Retaining a good deal of their former owner's magic they can see, hear and smell the world around them, though they have no ability to speak. The Monsters of Norrath book also describes them as non-agressive unless provoked, though they will happily attack you in game once they sense you. I love the lore behind this monster and thought I'd share it! I'm still learning about video and voice editing and recognize these videos aren't perfect, but I'm improving a little with each one!
