Robot tea picker assists in Longjing green tea harvest

The first harvest for China's springtime tea is underway. In east China's Hangzhou City, workers are getting help from a robot that can identify and pick tea buds. The AI technology picks one bud every second and a half. That’s about 2,400 buds per hour. In southwest China's Sichuan Province, hundreds of villagers harvest more than 14 tons of fresh tea every day from a 500-hectare tea plantation. The season's first tea harvests tend to fetch a higher price when they hit the market. Elsewhere, in southwest China's Guizhou Province tea is harvested even earlier than in other parts of the country.
