Her father, Mr. Talim Hussain, was an eminent poet and journalist and the founder of the Bangladesh Nazrul Academy and her mother, Mrs. Mafruha Chowdhury, was a journalist and short story writer. Mrs. Yasmin Mushtari’s formal training in music started at the early age of six in the Nazrul Academy where she was awarded a Gold Medal. She has been performing for the Bangladesh Radio and Television since the age of twelve. Her performance in “Natun Kuri” was highly acclaimed. She has received several awards for her outstanding contributions to Nazrul Geeti. She won the Citycell Channel I Best Singer Award in Nazrul Sangeet in 2006. Mrs. Yasmin Mushtari was attracted to Ustad Mehedi Hasan’s Ghazals and rendered his Ghazals during his visit to Bangladesh in 1986. Ustad Mehedi Hasan ceremoniously adopted her as his Shagird and provided her training and guidance. ------------------------------------------------------------ The composer-poet Kazi Nazrul Islam (25th May 1899 - 29th August 1976) emerged from the Bengal Renaissance of the 19th century, a period that saw a unique blend of religious and social reformers, patriots, scientists, literary giants and cultural activists. This was the time when great Bengali composer-poets, Rabindranath Tagore, Kazi Nazrul Islam, Atul Prasad Sen, Rajanikanta Sen and Dwijendralal Roy, flowered as Pancha-kobi (penta-poets). Within the short span of Nazrul’s creative life (in 1941 he lost his speech and memory to disease), he had composed four thousand songs apart from other literary and journalistic works. His songs changed from the rebellious to religious explorations at a later stage. He delved deep in both Hindu and Islamic practices and extensively composed over five hundred devotional songs. Nazrul was an expert in Hindustani classical music, and created over a dozen new ragas. His determinedly anti-fundamentalist and astonishingly inclusive writings, his repeated imprisonment for his outspoken criticism of British imperialism, and the depth of his cultural explorations once inspired entire generations of revolutionaries, including freedom fighters in both India and Bangladesh. His message remains as relevant today as it was all decades ago. ================================== 🔔 Please do Subscribe & enable notifications for more contents from us! 👍 Website: http://www.bengalfoundation.org 👍 Facebook:   / bengalfoundat.  . 👍 Twitter:   / trustfortheart.  . 👍 Instagram:   / bengalfound....  . ------------------------------------------------------------------------ © Bengal Foundation 2022
