How to Finance a Trailer in 4 Easy Steps

One of the most common questions we receive is "How do I finance a trailer?". Financing a PJ Trailer is a very easy and quick process. In this video, I will walk you through the process from start to finish. How do I finance a trailer? You can try to finance a trailer through a local bank, but we don't typically recommend that since so many banks do not offer trailer financing. If they will finance a trailer, the process is typically very slow. In our experience, the easiest way to finance a trailer is through Sheffield Financial. Sheffield Financial is the retail partner of most of the major trailer builders in the United States. They specialize in financing power sports, lawn equipment and trailers, with an emphasis on providing fast processing and being easy to work with. Sheffield is a division of Branch Banking & Trust Company, Member FDIC. Step 1. Identify the trailer you want If you don't know which brand of trailer or model you want, we recommend looking at the trailer comparison guides on pjtrailers.com. They will help you learn more about the product lines and how they compare to other trailers on the market. Step 2. Price the Trailer Before you apply for financing you need to know what your trailer will cost. To get a price on a PJ Trailer, you can use our dealer finder to contact a dealer or view their website for pricing. Step 3. Loan Application The easiest way to apply for a trailer loan is to visit SheffieldFinancial.com and click on the big 'Customer Application' graphic on the home page. This loan application will ask you about the amount you would like to finance, the manufacturer of the trailer and the trailer type. It will also ask you to provide personal information like your contact info and monthly gross income. After you enter you information, you will submit the form and Sheffield's staff will review it. It typically takes around 10-15 minutes to get an email back letting you know if your loan was approved, which is exceptionally fast for trailer financing. One of the great things about Sheffield is that they have extended hours for loan processing. They can process your loan application between the hours of 8:00 AM and 10:30 PM eastern time, Monday through Saturday. They are also available on Sunday from 1:00 to 8:00 PM. This gives you 94 hours a week to get an approval. If you are submitting your application outside of those hours, they will email you shortly after reopening. Also, if you would like to fill out an application by hand, you can go to any PJ Trailers dealer that offers financing through Sheffield. 4. Approval and Contract Signing Within 10-15 minutes of submitting your application, you should receive an email letting you know if your application was approved. If your loan is approved there will be a phone number to call to speak with a Sheffield representative. At this point, the Sheffield representative will instruct you to go to the dealer you are buying the trailer from to verify your identity in person. After your identity is verified, the dealer will send Sheffield the detail on your specific trailer. Sheffield will then send back a loan contract to be signed by the customer. This contract is sent back to Sheffield and the loan application process is complete. So in review the 4 steps are 1. Identify the trailer you want, 2. Price the trailer, 3. Fill out the online application, and 4. Sign your contract at the dealer after you receive approval.
