Lukas McFarlane Got To Dance Semi FINAL “Too Close” 10 Years Later…

10 years ago today the #GotToDance FINAL aired LIVE on British television. On March 17th 2013 I was crowned the UK and Irelands best dance act and my whole life changed in a single moment! I actually blacked out during this performance 😂 I have no first person memory of it 😳 You can see in my face as I finish the performance that I come back into the room and actually take in my surroundings. I’ve never experienced a feeling like it and probably never will again. The crowd was WILD 🤯 Every time I watch @davinamccall walk on the stage saying my name I get chills. I am forever grateful for this experience and the love and support I received from the British Public. The solo was a risk, trading in the emotion of my first two performances for something more intense, and I wasn’t connecting to it the way I knew I could UNTIL dress run day, when my teacher who raised me in dance showed up backstage with her daughter, all the way from Canada. Having Miss Gail (Gailion) there half way around the world in an empty arena critiquing me and cheering me on was the little bit of home I needed to fire me up. I was mentally exhausted, physically drained and alone the entire journey, until that moment. I’m so grateful for you Miss Gail, always have been. @danscott_studio will always be home. Lastly, looking out into the audience and seeing my family there was a truly powerful moment. This was one of the last performances my Nan ever got to see of me live as well so when the camera cuts to her, my heart jumps and the mouse on my arm always gives a little stir…if you know you know 😉❤️ I wanted the challenge of re creating these solos 10 years on. 10 years of ups and downs, extreme heart break and unfathomable joy, lessons too many to count, professional experiences I still can’t comprehend, 2 more knee surgeries (of 4 total) under my belt, and a whole lot of life lived. What do I bring to these 3 life changing performances as the artist I am now? Well…here’s the FINAL one.
