Torque These Six Sets of Bolts to Avoid a Costly Failure

Today's video is about torque. There are a few sets of bolts on a tractor that can get loose over time, or, in the story I relate at the start of the video, can come from the factory without being tightened properly. If there is a failure from bolts not being torqued right, it can be expensive to repair, and possibly dangerous. Generally, it won't be covered under warranty because the owner's manual tells you to check these bolts on a regular basis. So, at least once a year it doesn't hurt to go around and check all of these bolts. The first thing you'll need is a torque wrench with an extension and some sockets. Here's a link to the one like I used in the video from Amazon that goes up to 250 lbs (check to make sure that will cover all of your bolts): http://amzn.to/2t5rHvD. Here's a link to the 1/2" extensions I used: http://amzn.to/2tu1Wb6. Finally, here are the 1/2" metric deep dish sockets I bought: http://amzn.to/2tqACtt. First, check the front wheel lug bolts. Go to the back and do the same thing with the back wheels, while you're there, check the bolts that hold the rim to the center section, They're usually on the inside of the wheels and pretty hard to get to. Next, check the roll over protection system bolts. Then the bolts that hold the loader on to the tractor. Finally, check the torque on the drawbar bolts. A really bad situation can occur if you buy a new tractor and the dealer missed checking these bolts and you did as well and there's a failure. If you look in the owner's manual, it will usually tell you to check all of these bolts from time-to-time to make sure they're tight and that opens up a gray area on a new tractor if something goes wrong. Is that the factory's fault, the dealer's fault, or your fault? We don't want to ever get to the point of having to find out, so get the torque wrench out and make sure everything is tight and then everyone is happy!
