Running My First Marathon - It Was Much Worse Than I Expected

I just finished my first marathon and it didn't go as I had expected it to go. My training went really well and I expected to perform much better, but I couldn't prepare for this. Judging from my training, running sub 3: 30 should have been fairly easily achievable but wasn't able to hit the mark. I also had two bonus goals of sub 3: 15 and a stretch bonus goal of sub 3: 00. It was my first time trying gels and had some during the run. I ended up skipping the third one I planned on having at mile 15 because I found they weren't sitting too well and I would end up burping for about 5 minutes after having one. This run definitely didn't feel normal. After only a few miles everything in my legs started to hurt. My hips were hurting. I had a headache, but I don't want to use that as an excuse. I'll come back next time and show myself what I was actually capable of. The run felt like it just kept going on and on and would never finish. I'll have to train and prepare better for next time.
