Appalachian Trail Section Hike - High Point NJ to Delaware Water Gap PA (Day 1 and 2)

When we asked our daughter what she wanted to do before she starts high school, and she says she wants to hike on the Appalachian Trail.... you know she didn't have to ask us twice. We set out early on the morning of June 27th, from High Point, New Jersey and within a few hundred feet into the woods, we encountered two huge black bears, and the tone for the rest of the trip was set (we ended up seeing 4 bears across the first two days). The first two days were the hottest of the whole summer, and we fought off heatstroke, dehydration, and exhaustion, and managed 22-ish miles of roller coaster North Jersey hills/mountains. While the going was tough, getting to spend the time out on the trail with our goose meant the world to me. Getting to camp out in the middle of nowhere, with nothing but wild nature around us, was a new experience for our daughter, and reminded me of the times I spent when I was in college in Montana. I know we will both carry the memories of the time we shared on the trail for the rest of our lives.
