The Opening Of Henry VIII's Burial Vault

The most brutal and shocking King ever to rule over England was Henry VIII. He was a man who is best remembered for his ruthless streak and the fact he had six wives, two of whom he executed inside the walls of the Tower of London. But Henry was a man who in his final years became incredibly unhealthy and he put on a huge amount of weight because of his over-eating and also a significant injury that greatly affected his mobility. Henry VIII’s moods also became more sour and dark following a jousting accident that many believed the King would never recover from. But in the year 1547, the notorious Tudor King became ill and he then died in the relative calm and serenity of his bedchambers in the Palace of Whitehall. This was very different to the chaos that emerged throughout his reign over England, but the King was then following a huge procession taken to his burial place inside of St George’s Chapel in Windsor Castle. But the burial vault in which Henry VIII was interred in was never supposed to be his final resting place, but almost 500 years after his death the notorious Tudor King is still laid to rest there. But his burial vault has been broken into a number of times and has been even raided with one man trying to steal the King’s bones.
